Intraoral or mouth scans are extremely useful in orthodontics. Dr. Khan needs an accurate map of your mouth, gums, and teeth to provide you with effective braces and other orthodontic treatments. Traditionally, orthodontic specialists have used impressions to fashion these maps.

But physical impressions have several drawbacks. First, the putty used can be unpleasant and messy. Who wants a mouthful of mud-like material? Also, old-fashioned putty impressions can be time-consuming and take several attempts to get right. Finally, patient movement can reduce the accuracy and reliability of these impressions.

However, high-tech digital intraoral scanners like the iTero 3D Scans system we use at Smile Studio are faster and more convenient for both our patients and staff. This system is fully digital, so there is no uncomfortable putty material.
